Chuck
Baxter - Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, and Harp
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida
It's in him and it's got to come out! Chuck is
a true frontman and a lover of the blues. His impressive power, sweeping
dynamics and multiple octave range, enable the emotion of VuduBlu's style to be
securely captured. On stage, keep your
eyes open because you never know where he may end up.
"Growing up, there was always some type of
musical event happening in my family. Which probably explains much
of the experimentation (musical, not chemical), I did early on in my
career. I learned at a very young age that 'the show' is just as important
as 'the music', so I worked hard at both. Hey, you've got to set yourself apart
from the rest."
Outside of the lead vocal duties, Chuck plays
guitar, a little bit of keys and a little bit of harp. After spending 25+
years writing and playing music, Chuck feels he just now starting to reach a
stride with both. His early blues influences include Howlin' Wolf,
Otis Rush and BB King.
"I've been able to maintain a steady flow of
influences across the years by keeping my hands in various projects spanning
several genres. In my opinion, VuduBlu helps carry the torch for blues by
injecting new ideas into the proven product of this wonderful music. I
feel fortunate to have the blues as a part of my life. It's time to
celebrate the suffering. Let's play!"

Chuck's Equipment
Vocals
In a live
situation I have always preferred Shure Beta
58's. However, now that I spend more time playing rhythm guitar, some
keys or a little harp, I use a wireless headset. My AKG SR60 allows
me to switch instruments easily and move more freely on stage or throughout an
audience.
Guitars/Effects
I have
two main guitars I play, plus a couple of back-ups. The first is a Thinline
Tele from the Fender Custom Shop that I picked up at a music shop in
Jacksonville. The second is a '72 Reissue of a Fender Thinline
Tele which was a present from my wife on my 38th birthday. I am also very fond of
my Monster Guitar Cables in
both live and studio applications.
A Danelectro
Daddy-O, a Danelectro Milkshake Chorus, a Zoom 505 and a Morley
Wah fit quite well in the SKB PS-25 pedalboard I use. It's just
enough to add a little bit of color but not cover up anything.
Amps
I like to
keep things simple, so I have settled on two amps. I use a '94 Fender
"The Twin" and a Mesa Boogie Studio .22. These seem
to fit any situation I've run across so far. I've just recently started
using the Mesa as my harp amp.
Harps
I have
been gravitating towards playing only Hohner Special 20's.
Keys
An
Ensoniq SQ1 and a Hammond XK2 when its up and working.
